Legal Fund members thanked for DCS victory

“Solidarity’s recent victory in the Labour Appeal Court can be attributed to all the members of the Legal Fund; the victory belongs to them,” said Solidarity Chief Executive Dirk Hermann after the ruling.

The Labour Appeal Court in Cape Town recently ruled that the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) may not only apply the national racial demographics in the Western Cape. The judgment was delivered after Solidarity took the DCS to court on behalf of ten employees since the DCS planned on applying only the national racial demographics.

“This ruling is a major victory for Solidarity and a major setback for the government’s policy to apply the national racial demographics throughout South Africa,” Hermann added.

However, Hermann believes that this victory, as well as numerous other successes, could not have been achieved without the support of the Legal Fund members. Thanks to them, Solidarity has repeatedly succeeded in tackling labour issues and in bringing about a difference in the circumstances of minorities in the workforce.

Solidarity, therefore, wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all members contributing to the Legal Fund for their continued support and belief in the cases that Solidarity is fighting on behalf of its members. This is indeed the basis on which Solidarity is building its successes and is continuing to fight for justice in order to ensure a future that is free, safe and prosperous.
